Butter cow artist sculpting Iowa author for Iowa State Fair
The 106th butter cow for the Iowa State Fair will have two companion butter sculptures on display alongside for the 2017 season.
Sarah Pratt, Iowa State Fair butter sculptor since 2006, will create these works of butter art and all three will be on display in the John Deere Agriculture Building during the fair from Aug. 10-20.
Prairie spread
Laura Ingalls Wilder — author of a series of the famed "Little House on the Prairie" children's books from 1932 to 1943 — will be cast in 100 percent cream butter to celebrate her 150th birthday.
Wilder spent part of her childhood in Burr Oak, Iowa where a museum and park in her honor has been dedicated. Her sister Mary attended the Vinton School for the Blind in Iowa. Interested in Iowa food news?

From 1974 to 1982, a television series aired on NBC that was based on Wilder's book. It starred Melissa Gilbert as Laura Ingalls and Michael Landon as her father, Charles Ingalls.

But Wilder's statuesque form will be joined by a replica of the Solheim Cup golf trophy, the prize for the winner of the international golf tournament for women held in West Des Moines from Aug. 14-20.

This is the 15th year of the biennial Solheim Cup matches for professional women golfers since 1990.
The Iowa State Fair Butter Cow started in 1911 and for many years she has shared her cooler space with various public figures including Elvis Presley and Harry Potter. In 2016 a tribute to Star Trek was on display to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
