Fort Des Moines inmate escapee in custody

A man escaped from Fort Des Moines Correctional Facility on Monday morning, authorities said.

Joseph Patrick Polson, 34, who is convicted of intimidation with a dangerous weapon in Polk County, escaped from Fort Des Moines work release facility, 68 Thayer St., at about 11:35 a.m., according to an Iowa Department of Corrections news release.

The facility's security video showed Polson exiting from the main door, taking items from his locker and then proceeding northbound away from the work release facility's grounds, according to the news release.

He was admitted to the work release facility on March 24, according to the news release.

Anyone with information on Polson's whereabouts is asked to contact local police.
