Former Gov. Tom Vilsack's granddaughter dies

Former Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack's 6-year-old granddaughter passed away early Friday morning, his staff confirmed.

Ella Vilsack died from a sudden illness, a spokesman for the family said Saturday. An earlier version of this story incorrectly said she died from complications due to influenza.

Ella was the daughter of Jess Vilsack, the son of Tom and Christie Vilsack.

Jess, their oldest son, is a partner at Nyemaster Goode, an Iowa law firm.
