Mila Kunis was declared an 'honorary Iowan' while in West Des Moines

Welcome to Iowa, Mila! We know you'll love it here. Our commutes are easy (compared to Los Angeles, at least), our food is fantastic and we have the best darn State Fair in the country (sorry, Minnesota).

While in West Des Moines last April, alongside husband and Iowa native Ashton Kutcher as he received the Robert D. Ray Pillar of Character Award, famed actress Mila Kunis was named an "honorary Iowan." Gov. Terry Branstad and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds presented Kunis with a certificate, so it's actually official.

Responding with laughs and a smile, Kunis accepted the certificate. The award came after an impassioned, 15-minute speech from Kutcher on a person's character.

"[This award] is for my wife, who kicks my ass on character every day," Kutcher said in the speech. "She kicks my ass on it every single day and she's the best for it. It's unbelievable."

The 33-year-old actress, who was born in Ukraine, is known for work in hit television shows and films such as "That '70s Show," "Bad Moms," Friends With Benefits" and as the voice of Meg Griffin on the popular cartoon "Family Guy." She and Kutcher married in 2015 and have two children together: a son, Dimitri Portwood Kutcher and a daughter, Wyatt Isabelle Kutcher.

Prior to being presented with the award, Kutcher sat down with the Register to discuss parenthood. He cited three Iowa values key in parenting: A general kindness, always keeping your word and showing good work ethic.

"There’s an earnestness and an honest-ness here that lacks in a lot of other places in the world," Kutcher said in the Register interview. "People aren't afraid to work and aren't afraid to work really hard. They understand that working hard actually gets you there."

Kunis accompanied Kutcher as he received the annual award highlighting  “individuals who demonstrate good character as a role model.” Past precipitants of the award include Hayden Fry, Fred Hoiberg and Shawn Johnson.
