Two people were killed in a fatal accident north of Marshalltown early Friday morning, said Sgt. Nathan Ludwig, spokesman for Iowa State Patrol.

Brandon Paul Skidmore, 32, of Marshalltown and Kaleia Shana Grant, 33, of Springdale, Ark. were both killed in the crash, according to an accident report by Iowa State Patrol.

Around 2:15 a.m., emergency responders received a call about an accident at the intersection of Highway 14 and Highway 96 involving two semis and a pickup truck, Ludwig said.

Skidmore was heading westbound in a pickup truck on Highway 96 when he failed to yield at a stop sign and hit the trailer of a semi going northbound, Ludwig said. The semi then spun out and ended up in the southbound path of Grant, who was driving another semi, and the two semis collided.

"It was quite a mess at that intersection, and that roadway was blocked from 2:15 until 11 a.m. this morning," Ludwig said.

Ludwig said the crash is still under investigation.
