One man is dead after being struck by multiple cars Sunday as he was walking on Highway 218, officials said.

An Iowa State Patrol crash report said the collision occurred at about 8:56 p.m. Sunday in the northbound lane of Highway 218, just south of Interstate Highway 80.

The crash report states that the man was hit by a 2001 Pontiac Bonneville, and subsequently struck by a 2005 Chrysler Town and Country minivan and a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am.

Iowa State Patrol Sgt. Mike McCormick said the man was walking in the roadway for an unknown reason.

The names of the victim and the drivers have not been released. McCormick said officials are working to identify the man who was struck, and they will then notify his family of his death.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Johnson County Sheriff's Office, the Tiffin Fire Department and the Iowa City and Coralville police departments.
