Johnston Little Leaguers eliminated in World Series

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — One of the longest runs for an Iowa team in the Little League World Series has come to an end.

The young men from Jonhston, Iowa were eliminated from the tournament by the team from Goodlettsville, Tenn., 14-3 in five innings. Johnston held a 3-1 lead before an offensive explosion by Goodlettsville.

Tennessee’s RJ Moore hit a go-ahead three-run homer in a six-run fourth inning as the Southeast champions scored a combined 13 runs in the fourth and fifth to beat Iowa via slaughter rule.

After Moore’s shot over the center-field wall, Tennessee loaded the bases and Zach McWilliams hit a bloop double to score two and Tyler Jones scored from first after an error for a 7-3 lead.

The bases were full again in the fifth for Tennessee. With no outs and the infield in, Brock Duffer rolled it through the hole on the left side to score two and Ryan Oden crossed home on an error to make it 10-3. Duffer scored on a fielder’s choice.

Tyler Jones drove in Tanner Jones from second for a 12-3 lead and Robert Carroll sent it up the middle to score two more.

Kaiden Dinh put Iowa in front 3-1 with a three-run homer in the third. Johnston was the first Midwest regional team to win at least two games in the LLWS tournament since the turn of the century.
