Police arrested a Des Moines man Friday after finding his ID card in a cab after he allegedly robbed the driver, according to a police report.

Landon Paul Dawson, 34, was booked into the Polk County Jail about 5:25 a.m. on a second-degree robbery charge, according to online jail records.

At about 3:45 a.m., police had responded to a parking lot at 2110 Evergreen Avenue and met a cab driver who said he had been robbed.

The driver said earlier that night he had driven a customer, later identified as Dawson, to Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino, according to a Des Moines police report. A couple of hours later, Dawson called the cab driver to take him home from the casino.

Dawson told the cab driver he had "hit it big" at the casino and wanted to give the driver a big tip, the driver told police. Dawson asked the cab driver for change for a $100 bill so he could give the cab driver $30 for the ride and $20 for a tip, according to the report.

When the driver pulled out $50 for change, Dawson allegedly snatched it from him and got out of the cab without paying.

The cab driver got out of his car to confront Dawson, but then Dawson yelled "I'll shoot you" numerous times, though he did not show a gun, according to the police report. Because of the threat, the cab driver stayed by his vehicle and called police.

When a police officer arrived, he found a DART bus ID card with Dawson's name in the backseat of the cab, according to the report.

The officer looked up Dawson's address and discovered police had previously dealt with him at an address that is redacted from the public police report.

Police went to that address and, upon receiving consent from a woman who said she lived at the apartment, they searched the residence, where they found Dawson hiding in the bathroom behind a shower curtain, only wearing boxer shorts, according to the police report. His other clothes, which matched the description of the robber's clothing, were in the bathtub.

Police detained Dawson, who, upon hearing his Miranda Rights, refused to answer officers' questions, according to the report.

Police found the cash stolen from the cab driver, along with another ID card with Dawson's name, in the apartment where he had been hiding, according to the report.

Dawson is being held in jail on a $10,000 bond.
