Des Moines man dead after alleged assault

A man who was allegedly assaulted in Des Moines Monday afternoon has died, police say.

Ryan Thompson, 32, was discovered by police in the 7300 block of Southwest 17th Street at 3:08 p.m. after a report of an assault. He was taken to Iowa Methodist Medical Center, but he died from his injuries on Tuesday, according to a news release from Des Moines police.

Detectives have identified a suspect, police say, but no charges have been filed yet. Police are waiting for autopsy results, conducting interviews and consulting with the Polk County Attorney's Office before filing charges.
