Inmate escape reported from work release facility

An inmate has escaped from a residential work release facility, police said.

Deron Humes III, 27, escaped from the Fort Des Moines Release Facility on Friday. He failed to return to the facility from his job, according to a news release from the Iowa Department of Corrections.

He began serving his 10-year sentence in October 2014 for intimidation with a dangerous weapon. He was transferred to work release by the Iowa Board of Parole on May 10.

He is an African-American male who is 6-foot-2 and weighs 226 pounds. He has tattoos on his left hand and forearm.

Anyone with information about Humes' whereabouts are asked to contact the Des Moines Police Department or the Polk County Sheriff's Department.
