A 14-year-old was arrested for shooting another teenager in the neck outside North High School on Friday.

Eohnte Ware, 14, of Des Moines, reportedly drove up to a group of teens waiting for a bus outside North High School, 501 Holcomb Avenue, around 10 p.m. Ware fired shots from his car with what looked like a short shotgun, according to a police report.

Officers located the shooting victim with other witnesses and all were patted down for weapons, the report stated. They were released after telling officers that no one had been injured.

Later, officers contacted a witness who could confirm that shots were fired near the high school. When officers went back to check the scene, they found a single bullet casing.

The same group of teens were approached by officers again. This time, the victim said he had a gunshot wound on the back of his neck which he "didn't realize" at the time, the report stated.

That victim was transported to Mercy Medical Center and doctors found a bullet lodged in his neck near his spinal cord. Doctors said the victim was in stable condition but would meet with a surgeon to confirm.

Ware was arrested and charged with attempted murder and willful injury, said Sgt. Jason Halifax, a spokesman for the department. He's being held at a juvenile detention facility.
