Mark Smith re-elected to serve as Democratic House leader

Iowa Rep. Mark Smith of Marshalltown was elected to continue serving as the Iowa House Democratic Leader, according to a news release. Smith led Democrats in the Iowa House during the 2014 legislative session for the first time last fall.

House Democrats also elected four assistant minority leaders, including: Rep. Ako Abdul-Samad of Des Moines, Rep. Mary Gaskill of Ottumwa, Rep. Todd Prichard of Charles City and Rep. Sharon Steckman of Mason City.

The four new members of the House Democratic Caucus are Liz Bennett of Cedar Rapids, Timi Brown-Powers of Waterloo, Abby Finkenauer of Dubuque and Charlie McConkey of Council Bluffs.
