A new survey of Democrats shows presidential candidate Bernie Sanders leading rival Hillary Clinton by 4 percentage points in the race for Iowa’s first-in-the-nation caucuses.

Vermont U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley greet the audience before the Democratic presidential debate Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015, in Des Moines, Iowa, at Sheslow Auditorium on the campus of Drake University.

The Quinnipiac University poll suggests Sanders, a U.S. senator from Vermont, is the top choice for 49 percent of likely caucusgoers, followed by Clinton, the former secretary of state, at 45 percent. Former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley is polling at 4 percent.

Just 2 percent of likely attendees are undecided, and 19 percent say they could change their minds before the Feb. 1 caucuses.

Those results are virtually unchanged from a previous Quinnipiac poll from earlier this month.

Sanders holds substantial leads among men and voters under age 45, while Clinton leads with women and older voters.

The latest Quinnipiac poll in Iowa surveyed 606 likely Democratic Caucus participants from January 18 to  24. It has a margin of error of +/- 4 percentage points. Live interviewers call land lines and cell phones.
