Police are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that happened overnight in Urbandale.

At about 4 a.m. Urbandale police responded to the Holiday Inn at 4800 Merle Hay Road on a drug call, said Urbandale Police Sgt. Gary Lang.

Police met three suspects in the lobby, where a male suspect allegedly shot at police. Then an officer fatally shot the man during a brief exchange involving gunfire between police and the man, Lang said.

No officers or others were injured, police said.

The two other suspects, both women, fled on foot after the shooting. They were arrested a few blocks away shortly after, Lang said.

Lang could not say what charges will be filed against the two women. He could not provide more details on the suspects or the officer involved.

A Des Moines Register photographer on scene reported a bed sheet covered the front door of the hotel.
