Actress and author Lena Dunham will campaign for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton at two afternoon events on Saturday, Jan. 9, in Des Moines and Iowa City.

Dunham's planned visit to Iowa had been announced earlier, but not details about her appearances.

She'll speak at 12:30 p.m. at Java House, 211½ E. Washington St., Iowa City, and then move on to Des Moines for a 3:30 p.m. event at Seven Central, 520 E. Grand Ave. Both events are open to the public, but RSVPs are requested.

Dunham will discuss Clinton's record of fighting for women and girls and her vision for an economy "that works for everyone," according to a news release.

Dunham appeared in Iowa City last year while touring for her book "Not That Kind of Girl." Dunham also set a major story line for her "Girls" character Hannah Horvath in Iowa when the mid-20s New Yorker enrolled at the Iowa Writers' Workshop in the beginning of Season 4. (Horvath did not last long in the Hawkeye state.)

Dunham isn't the first celebrity to campaign in Iowa.Actor Tony Goldwyn, who plays President Fitzgerald Grant on "Scandal," has campaigned for Clinton, and singer Katy Perry appeared at a Clinton rally just before the Jefferson-Jackson dinner in October. In November, author and activist Cornel West stumped for fellow Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders.
