A harrowing Sunday night for a pair of Jefferson toddlers ended with them recovered in a Des Moines hotel room early Monday.

Rhea Day, 2, and Reed Day, 4, were recovered in the company of Allison Tucker, 21, of Jefferson. Tucker had taken the children to Des Moines for the day at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Troopers and Des Moines police located them at Hotel Fort Des Moines, 1000 Walnut Street, around 4:45 a.m., confirmed Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation spokesman Alex Murphy.

However, the children's mother became worried when the kids did not arrive at their destination. They were officially reported missing at 8:36 p.m.

Authorities active a statewide Amber Alert for the children shortly before 4:30 a.m. The children were located within an hour.

Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation authorities said Tucker was arrested without incident. A charge was not immediately released.

Amber Alert information stated Tucker was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, though how this played into the missing children report remained unclear early Monday.

The search was particularly intense because Rhea Day was described as having "severe Type I diabetes" and did not have testing supplies or a blood sugar monitor with her, Jefferson Police Capt. Mark Clouse said in a statement.
