Coralville man arrested for sexually abusing 4-year-old

Police have charged a Coralville man with sexual abuse for inappropriately touching a four-year-old child.

Coralville police said Raymond L. Wagehoft, 71, of 347 Sierra Trace in Coralville, was caring for a four-year-old girl on Oct. 6 when he made inappropriate sexual contact with her while she was naked.

According to a police complaint, the victim was crying when Wagehoft's wife came home and told her Wagehoft had hurt her. She also repeated this story in an interview at the Child Protection Center, police said.

Wagehoft was arrested on Tuesday. He is charged with second-degree sexual abuse, a class B felony punishable by 25 years in prison, lascivious acts with a child, a class C felony punishable by 10 years in prison, and child endangerment, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by two years in prison.

He is currently being held in the Johnson County Jail on a $15,000 bond.
