ARTS IN IOWA

Cool video of Des Moines resurfaces

It's hard to pin down exactly what Brian Abeling's newest time-lapse video, "A Walk Through Des Moines" is.

The five-minute piece was stitched together from 9,000 still images, so it could be called photography. But the photos are moving, so video or film would be appropriate monikers as well. Then, take one look at the seamless crafting behind the transitions and careful selection of shots and I think art could be ascribed as well.

More than anything, it's beautiful.

The video, made by Brian Abeling, the director of technology for West Des Moines Community Schools, took four months to complete, he wrote on his Vimeo page. Posted last year, the video has been given new life by a recent spate of Internet shares and Facebook posts.

Abeling collected the footage on "last minute trips" with his kids and his niece and his nephews when they "ventured out to find a place just to watch the sunset," he wrote in his Vimeo post.

Check out the video below and make sure to visit Abeling's page for more, which includes videos of the Northern lights, a lunar eclipse from April and the National Balloon Classic.
