Iowans capture images of Northern Lights

The Des Moines Register

Due to a massive solar storm that hit the Earth on Monday, forecasters predicted that the Northern Lights would be viewable as far south as Iowa and Pennsylvania through Tuesday evening.

Register photographer Bryon Houlgrave was on vacation in Lansing with his family when he witnessed the shimmering aurora borealis light up the night sky. He shared these images on his Instagram account, @bryon_houlgrave.

Register reader and Des Moines resident Brian Abeling captured this photo and timelapse video at the Century Wind Farm in Blairsburg.

The lights were of course visible throughout the northern part of the U.S. Check out this video of the the aurora borealis glowing over Washington state.
