Convicted kidnapper dies in prison

An Iowa man serving a sentence of life in prison died Friday while in custody at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center.
Donald Eugene Newman died of colon cancer at the Coralville facility, according to a news release from the Iowa Department of Corrections.
He was 69 years old.
Newman, convicted of first-degree kidnapping in Polk County, began serving his life sentence in 1980.
