New trial date set for suspect in Grimes homicide

The a new trial data has been set for the man accused of fatally shooting a Grimes man in May, according to court documents filed Thursday.

David Joseph Moffitt, 26, of Pleasant Hill, appeared for his pre-trial conference at the Polk County Courthouse on Thursday afternoon. Moffitt has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Justin Michael, 30.

Moffitt's jury trial date was initially scheduled for Aug. 25. The trial date was changed to March 2 during the pre-trial conference.

Polk County Sheriff's Office deputies found Michael with a fatal gunshot wound in a Grimes home May 8. Moffitt was later arrested in the killing.

Moffit remains in the Polk County Jail on a $1 million bond.
