Car stuck in snow? Northern Iowa coach Jacobson can help

Register staff report

Well, now that you mention it, Northern Iowa basketball coach Ben Jacobson does resemble Clark Kent a little bit.

What does Jacobson do when he's not leading the 10th-ranked Panthers to another Missouri Valley Conference victory? Apparently he patrols the streets of Cedar Falls looking for folks who need help.

Driving home from Wednesday's shootaround, Jacobson stumbled upon a woman whose car was stuck in the snow. The coach kindly got out of his car and helped her shovel out.

Then he gave her a little encouragement and sent her on her way.

The woman later tweeted about the incident on her Twitter handle, @abbyyoung8: "i think the uni basketball coach just shoveled/ drove my car out of a snow bank and then patted me on the back once he got it unstuck"

Jacobson confirmed that he helped the woman in a text message to the Des Moines Register on Thursday morning.

Later Wednesday, his superhero duties done, Jacobson coached the Panthers to a 68-57 victory over Evansville at the McLeod Center in Cedar Falls.

Now, the Panthers can turn their attention to Saturday's game at No. 11 Wichita State.

"We have some unfinished business to do," Northern Iowa forward Seth Tuttle told the senior-day crowd. "I guess that starts Saturday."

The Panthers will end 2014-15 having won 18 games in a row at home. They'll try to extend an overall string of 16 consecutive victories — the fourth-longest streak in the nation.
